Drum Brake Fix

When we rebuild the rear drum brakes we found that the brake shoe adjuster retainer springs were tired and didn't work properly. The springs have a tooth which engages with the teeth on the adjuster screw. It makes the adjuster click from one tooth to the next, and also stops it turning under normal vibration. If the spring is too tired, it will not hold the adjuster properly and the brakes may go out of adjustment on their own. This could lead to them needing more pedal travel to operate, or even to them binding and overheating. So its not something which can safely be ignored.

I came up with a cheap and cheerful solution to this problem : put a nylon cable tie round the spring and pull it tight to provide more spring force. To stop the cable tie sliding off, I cut a notch in the adjuster block with a needle file.
